The mobile food industry has experienced remarkable growth across the United States, transforming community events, festivals, and urban streetscapes into popular gathering points. However, mobile food trucks, carts, and trailers present foodborne illness risks, and oversight of these operations has remained a significant challenge. It is the role and responsibility of the environmental public health workforce to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
In this seminar, environmental public health professionals from accomplished mobile food programs, including Maricopa County Environmental Health, City of Milwaukee Consumer Environmental Health, U.S. Navy Environmental Health, and Southern Nevada Health District Specialized Foods Office, will explore the intersection of regulation and compliance. They will share the challenges they have faced in the field, discuss strategies they have applied to improve compliance outcomes, and recommend policy actions that strengthen enforcement authority and workforce support.
